Forgiveness – Set yourself Free

Forgiveness.

Forgiveness is a very powerful tool on our path of healing ourselves.

I, like so many others, thought that I would have to tell it face-to-face to the person I was to forgive.
And, if they had passed on, it would be too late.

This couldn’t be further from the truth.
True forgiveness happens in your heart.

Why you should Forgive

When we hold anger, regret, fear, worry, shame, guilt, grief towards others, we punish ourselves as equally much -if not more- as the person we are holding these emotions towards.
By doing this, you hold yourself away from fully shining your light, and experience true greatness in your life.

You might think, I’m doing fine.
I don’t have anything to forgive.
My life has been good.
And, I’m so much over that!

It can be a comment towards you in high school, or someone who hurt you in some way.
It can be your grandparent who died and left you here.
It can be your parents who loved you, and did their best for what they knew and could do. But they couldn’t give you that cool jacket, or let you sleep over at your friend’s house, like the other kids did.
Maybe your boyfriend/girlfriend ditched you for your best friend.
Or that bus driver who never showed up, and you had to walk back home in the rain.

It might seem insignificant, but still it holds a part of your soul in that memory.

Remember, forgiveness doesn’t have to make what the other person did, acceptable or right in any way.
Defend and Protect yourself.
By no means anyone has the right to harm you, or take advantage of you, and you don’t have to punish yourself for someone else’s deeds.
Forgiveness sets You free in Yourself.

How to Forgive

Make sure you have some time for yourself without being disturbed.
Put your phone on silent mode, or in the next room.

Sit or lie down, and feel comfortable.
Close your eyes and breathe deeply in through your nose, hold it for a few seconds, and exhale slowly through your mouth.
Repeat 5-10 times.
This helps you to get into a more relaxed state.

If you know of someone you want to forgive, recall a memory into your mind.
Or, you can ask yourself “Who do I need to forgive?”, and trust what comes up.

“Float” into that memory, and feel it.
Feel how that situation have harmed you.
If you feel overwhelmed, just breathe in deeply a few times, like when you sat or lied down.
By bringing up these emotions, you can fully transform them into healing, by Forgiveness.

Let’s see how this can be done.

Try to see the situation from the other person’s stand point.
Maybe they had a rough day.
Maybe they were going through a difficult time in their life.
Maybe by hurting you, they felt less of their own pain.
You can never know how they feel on the inside, or how their life is.

Say:
“I forgive you, and I release you. I forgive myself, and I release myself.”

Breathe in through your nose, hold it, and exhale slowly.
Feel that you are letting it go…

You can also imagine a cord connected from your body to theirs.
Use your hand as a sword to cut over this imaginary cord, as a symbolic way of ending your connection to the past.

If you feel that you need some more time to let go, repeat
“I forgive you, and I release you. I forgive myself, and I release myself.”

Maybe you are bursting into tears.
Let it all come out.
This is your body letting go of the emotions it have been holding on to.

Feel how you feel lighter. More relaxed. Happier.
You might feel emotional after this process, specially if it have been a strong forgiveness and healing for you.
Be kind to yourself and take it easy.
Get comfortable for some time, and let go of all worries and should do’s.
This is a part of your healing process.
Do what feels right for you to do.

If you forgave someone in your life now, next time you interact with them, your relationship might have changed for the better.
Maybe this person will have a different attitude towards you, from now on.
Maybe they won’t even know.
That is fine.
You have forgiven them in your Heart.
This changes your life, Past and Future alike.

If you, for any reason, slip back into negative emotions towards this person, repeat the above process.
Eventually it will set you Free    ♥
